Beyonce did 16 minutes of Lemonade: the best VMA performance ever?

The 2016 VMAs were all about Beyonce. People acted surprised about that fact. First of all, I thought it was established a while back that she would be performing, but people were “surprised” that it was confirmed just hours before the show. Second of all, Beyonce left Jay-Z at home. Which makes me laugh, especially since she performed all of the “he cheated” songs off of Lemonade. Beyonce did roll up to the VMAs with Blue Ivy and the Mothers of the Movement, which was incredible. Her red carpet outfit was Francesco Scognamiglio Couture. Boss. But the red carpet look was just a precursor for the performance.

So much was made of MTV giving Kanye West four minutes to say whatever he wanted. But MTV gave Beyonce 16 minutes in the middle of their show just so she could perform a half dozen songs from Lemonade. It was incredible. And of course Beyonce killed it. She murdered the VMAs. This will go down in VMA history as possibly the greatest sustained performance ever. MTV was even like “sure, you can f—k up one of our cameras, cool.” Here’s the video:

Beyonce also won the most awards last night. She picked up VMAs for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Video of the Year, Breakthrough Long Form Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. Everybody else can go home. Beysus is here.
