Keeping Up Appearances to make a comeback

Publish date: 2024-06-30

The hit 90’s sitcom ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ is set to make a sensational comeback, but with a twist.

The show that saw impossible snob, Hyacinth Bucket, who insisted her surname be pronounced ‘Bouquet’ try to remove herself from her family as she tried to climb the social ladder, will make a return to our TV screens after 20 years away.

The show will focus on the teenage years of Hyacinth, but Patricia Routledge who played the character is unlikely to feature in the new sitcom, but it will be written by the original script writer Roy Clarke.

According to the Telegraph, Roy has already written the pilot episode of the show, which has the working title of ‘Young Hyacinth’ and focuses on 19 year old Hyacinth.

If the new prequel sitcom proves a hit with viewers, it could be made into a full series.

Keeping Up Appearances ran from 1990-1995 and is one of Britain’s most successful sitcoms ever.

With repeats on Gold, like hit sitcom Only Fools And Horses, the show has picked up a younger audience, with some fans like me not even being born when the series was first on TV.

Speaking about the shows comeback A BBC spokesman said: “There are a number of shows being considered for BBC One’s Landmark Sitcom Season but nothing is confirmed as yet.”
