Demi Lovato Slams Instagram After Getting Fat-Shaming Ad!

Publish date: 2024-06-04

Demi Lovato couldn’t just stay silent after seeing this Instagram ad! The singer took to social media to slam a sponsored Game of Sultans post that was as fat-shaming as they come!

The ad showed two animated female characters, one labeled as ‘obese’ and the other as ‘pretty.’

When the singer saw this, she took the opportunity to bring awareness on it, making it very clear that being pretty has nothing to do with someone’s weight.

On her Instagram Stories, Demi wrote: ‘Why is this fat shaming bulls**t on my feed? So many things wrong with this ad. 1. You can be ‘pretty’ at any weight. This is absolutely harmful to anyone who is easily influenced by societal pressures put on us from the diet culture to constantly be losing weight in a world that teaches us to equate our value and worth with the way we look and especially anyone in recovery from an eating disorder.’

One rep for the company talked to TMZ, telling the news outlet that the ad was approved by mistake and they apologized for it.

‘We reviewed it again and removed it from future delivery in people’s feeds,’ the rep assured everyone concerned about the harmful message.

It is safe to say that is exactly what Demi wanted since she took to her feed and her Twitter account to plead with the platform to take it off since it could affect people’s self-confidence.

She went on to shame the game itself and made it clear that she expects Instagram to be more mindful of such things since people are becoming more and more aware of mental health problems these days.
